History
The Danish Powerlifting
Federation was founded in 1982, so it is not an old organization. During
the first 8 years the Danish Powerlifting federation was not a member of
the National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark, but
still we managed quite well and participated in international championships
and had our own efficient doping control committee. However, as from 1990
our federation was admitted, which was essential for the growth and general
acceptance of powerlifting in Denmark. Today 27 clubs totaling 4000 persons
are members of the Danish Powerlifting Federation, and it is worth noticing
that none of these clubs are privately owned as such organizations cannot
become members of the Danish Sports Confederation.
The Danish Powerlifting federation
is a member of:
-
The International Powerlifting
Federation (IPF)
-
The European Powerlifting Federation
(EPF)
-
The Nordic Powerlifting Federation

May) and ER Equipment Open Benchpress Championships (usually in March).
All Danish records can be
found. Look under "Rekorder & Ranglister".
New national coach
The Danish Powerlifting
Federation employed Johan Westerberg as national coach of Denmark
in 2001. Since then the lifters’ technique, the methods and the intensity
of training have improved considerably. So we are trying hard to create
an elite who will do well internationally, too.
Denmark as an organizer
of international championships
In Denmark we are quite
experienced in organizing international championships. A large number of
Nordic championships have taken place in Denmark. The Men’s European Championships
took place in Horsens in 1992. The Masters’ World Championships have been held
in Copenhagen some years ago, and in 1996 the World Benchpress
Ch.ships were organized by Horsens and Silkeborg. In 1998 the Baltic
Cup was placed in Horsens, and the Women’s World Ch.ships in 1999 were organized by Thisted Powerlifting Club in North Western Denmark.
In 2003 the Men's World Championships takes place in Vejle.
